bio:
Prof. G.Monno is a full professor of industrial drafting and representation at the Faculty of Engineering of the Politecnico di Bari. Until 1999 he was associate professor of Machine Design.
Between 1994-1998 he was a member of the committees for the National Research Center (CNR) "Engineering and Architecture Sciences" and "Biotechnologies and Molecular Biology".
During his 25 years university career he has been interested in the development and application of advanced design techniques in the mechanical engineering. His first experiences regarded structural analysis of components using numerical (FEM & BEM) and experimental techniques (photoelasticity, estensimetry); he then worked on detailed analytical studies on the elastic bodies contact and crack propagation in components undergoing a fatigue load.
More recently his research involved also CAGD. In this area with his research group, he has developed an automatic procedure for the correction and semplification of complex geometric CAD models containing errors. In the Virtual Reality field he has contributed to the development of an original CAD sistem which is able to provide an intuitive human/computer interface for 3D models creation and manipulation.
For many years he has collaborated with scientific institutions at the forefront of his research fields, such as CIPIC Center for Image Processing and Integrated Computing - Department of Computer Science - University of California, Davis in the RE field and with Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics IGD Darmstadt, Germany in the VR field.
Currently he is in charge of the research lab for Virtual Reality at the department of industrial drafting and representation of the Politecnico di Bari.Projects
