Gaetano Vacca was born in Bari on December 5, 1949. He graduated on July 27, 1974 first in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Bari; then on December 16, 1977 he got his Master of Science in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Cincinnati, Ohio State, U.S.A.. In 1985 he was appointed Associate Professor of Machinery at the University of Bari. In 1990 he became full Professor of Machinery taking service at the University of Basilicata. In 2001 he has been called to take the position of full professor of Mechanical and Thermal Measurements at the Polythecnic of Bari, where he is still working at the Department of Mechanical, Mathematics and Management.

Since 1978 he has been teaching several courses on "Numerical Analysis", "Computational Fluidynamics", “Probability and Statistics”, "Machinery", "Energy Systems" etc. at the University of Bari first, and then at the University of Basilicata. From 1976 until 1992 he spent some periods in the USA to study first (Sept. 1976-Dec.1977), and then as visiting scientist at Virginia Tech, working with Prof. B. Grossman on computational fluidynamics tasks. He was a member of AIAA association, and he is author of more than 80 scientific papers, mostly international.
